When my now school-aged children were babies, the highlights of the week were muscaris and baby clubs. In them, you could meet others in the same situation and get tips on what you could do with your baby at home. I missed one thing about these: the fact that there would have been more activities that were also meaningful for the parents, when a baby's everyday life pretty much revolves around the baby anyway.

This gave me the idea to start holding mother-baby yoga classes in Aurala, and they have always been very popular. The idea is that the parent can do a yoga practice that takes care of themselves and gives strength to the baby's everyday life, without having to think about where to find time for the baby's care - or if it's a good idea to leave him anywhere at all!

Of course, babies are not in the side part of the classes. It is also possible to do almost all the exercises together with the baby, and the lesson also contains elements that strengthen the interaction between parent and baby, such as presence and interaction exercises.

The yoga content of the classes is designed to rehabilitate the body after pregnancy and childbirth and to provide strength for everyday life with a baby. In every class, we learn to be aware of the pelvic floor. There we learn to find strength and, above all, relaxation. In addition, the neck-shoulder area is relaxed, stability is sought in the deep muscles of the middle body and a neutral position of the lumbar spine is sought, and the pelvic area is compressed. Vigorous stretching or muscle training are not part of this course, because after giving birth, the body benefits more from other things. Even if you don't get to do the whole program every class, when the baby needs attention, the participants have said that the exercises have brought freshness to the body and space to the mind.

There have been tears and laughs on the course! The participants have thus been able to get to know others in the same life situation. Sometimes the participants have gone to lunch together after yoga. They say it was nice to come to the course, even if the previous night had gone more unevenly than usual.

There are mother-baby yoga classes in Aurala on Monday and Tuesday mornings. The following courses start in January 2023: bit.ly/äitavaujooga
