Kaisa Eräpuro's theater expression and improvisation courses at Aurala Civic College offer participants to throw themselves, express themselves and find new perspectives together with others. The courses are full of creative fun, community and insights, where the most important thing is not perfection, but a journey together.
We interviewed Kaisa on the subject.

What inspires you to teach this topic?
Even if the day was tired otherwise, the theater course will make the teacher pick up! Working together and the presence in a common moment refreshes.
It is inspiring to hobby theater in the sense that it is at a common thing for a while. Experience is both communal and bodily, even if you do the role characters, moving and acting physically. You can be both casually yourself and on the other hand, for a moment, for a moment, in the role of a character when acting. There is a kind of creative playfulness in theater exercises, so it's also nice to get refreshed when you don't have to be so serious.
Also, it is inspiring when you get everyone in the group to do something in common. Let's make sound and movement together or laugh together for a play. It involves a certain amount of liberty. There is enough unfinished to make theater and mocha is a gift. It is a great starting point for meeting yourself and others, as well as a fun -loving together! 🙂
What do participants usually be surprised to learn?
I will try to say as clearly as possible from the beginning what we do and practice and how. Thus, learning areas are therefore known in advance. Perhaps there may sometimes be surprises that the exercises we do bring some relaxation and certainty to the course of their own everyday life and social situations. Some may also find more detailed interests during the course, such as being particularly interested
Improvisation more than a scripted theater, or vice versa, or that doing both is just as nice and supports each other! Or somebody may find that a particular exercise has been one that enjoys a particularly much or who has realized something new. In my opinion, it has been great to see such surprises when a person is joyful, "Isn't it, I didn't know that I was like that!"
Who did the courses fit?
Course descriptions say whether they are suitable for the start of the theater or if previous base information is needed. A good attitude when coming to the courses is that we are together to learn something new!
What is the best moment you have experienced as a teacher?
Once on the course, I said, "I learned a lot today, more than ever before." It felt really good! Firstly, on behalf of this course, because he got a big experience of learning and a lot of new knowledge, and secondly, because I felt that I was a teacher to create particularly good exercises and the learning of good space. When the same participant came the same comment the second time, it was happy to feel like we were later on the good thing!
Of course, the best moments are when you see the group work well together and encourage you to support each other. When you come to the course, you will be greeted and thank you. Seems that it is nice for participants to come to the course, and finally, the end of the course also involves a little distress and gratitude. Then it feels like it's a good thing to be here.
I also feel really happy when someone says at the end of the course that he has learned to laugh more to himself! It is the best thing that while practicing theater exercises, you learn to be more relaxed in different situations and in relation to yourself.
Why is this skill important in life?
Making theater gives you tools to express yourself. For example, we may have situations where we need to perform. Theater exercises often also increase empathy, that is, the ability to position another and to look at situations from different angles. Empathy, creative thinking and constructive working together are essential skills when we work with others. On the other hand, you don't always have to think about those skills - sometimes it is important in life just to get more fun and joy in life!
