Is Aurala Open During School Holidays?

There is no instruction at Aurala Community College during school’s autumn holiday week 42 or winter holiday week 8.

How Do I get to Aurala?

Aurala’s address is Satakunnantie 10 / Louhenpolku 3. You can reach Aurala by foot, bike, bus, or car. Aurala is located within walking/cycling distance from Turku city center, near the bus station. You can get to Aurala from Turku city center by buses 2, 6, 3A, 6A, 302, and 301 (towards Raisio).

We encourage you to come by foot, bike, or bus, as parking spaces are limited. Parking spaces are located in Aurala’s inner courtyard (Louhenpolku 3). More spaces can be found in the wooden house area behind Aurala (Bilmarkinkatu, Pohjolankatu).

What is Aurala's Living Room?

Aurala’s Living Room is a meeting place and gathering space that is open to everyone. Our community living room is open for self-service every weekday! This means you can freely come and go, read the daily newspaper, or grab a board game from the shelf to play, be alone or together. The Living Room has free restrooms, and from the affordable coffee machine, you can buy cocoa and specialty coffees in addition to regular coffee. We also have a book exchange point where you can find new reads or bring your unused books to circulate. Additionally, we organize various events and activities in the living room.

All Living Room activities are free of charge.

Can I Join an Aurala Community College Course Mid-Term?

It is possible to join almost all courses mid-term, if there is space available. You will get the course at a reduced price. You can register directly online, but please contact Aurala’s office to receive the reduced course price.

If I Cannot Attend the First Session of a Course or Cannot Attend a Specific Session, Do I Need to Notify?

You do not need to notify if you are absent from the first course session. You will not lose your course spot. You also do not need to notify if you are absent from any other course session.

For individual lessons, please notify the teacher directly of your absence. If you do not have the teacher’s contact information, please call the office, tel. 050 316 7702.

Can I get Discounts on Course Fees?

Unemployed individuals can receive a 20% discount on the course fee. The reduced price can be obtained by visiting the office or sending an email. Proof of unemployment must be presented upon request.

A study grant may be awarded to low-income individuals, entitling them to a 50% discount on the course fee. The study grant is applied for from the principal with an informal application. If you need help with the application, please contact Hanne, tel. 050 316 7784.

Members of Aurala Settlement Association receive a 10% discount on the course fee.

Discounts do not apply to courses organized with partners.

Do I Need to Acquire the Language Course Textbook Myself?

The course description mentions the name of the textbook used for the course, and the book must be acquired by yourself. However, it is not advisable to acquire the book until it has been confirmed that the course will take place. It’s okay if you don’t have the book for the first session. The course teacher can also provide tips on where to buy the book.

Can I Cancel My Course Registration?

Course registration is binding, but if for some reason you are unable to attend the course, please contact the office either by email at toimisto@aurala.fi or by calling tel. 050 316 7702.

In What Cases Can Aurala Community College Cancel a Course?

If there are not enough registered participants for a course approximately 5 days before its start, it may be canceled. Cancellations are announced via text message. In force majeure situations, separate instructions are followed: Instructions for Students

How Can I Pay?

You can pay for the course online immediately after registration with a credit card, online banking credentials, or with SmartumPay or ePassi. You can pay with these if the balance covers the entire course fee.

You can also pay for the course by bank transfer or at the office with a card or cash.

Payments with SmartumPay or vouchers, Edenred app, card or vouchers, and ePassi are made at the office if not done online immediately after registration. The amount paid does not directly transfer to the invoice from these benefit systems.

Please note that Smartum, Edenred, and ePassi can only be used for your own course fee, as it is a tax-exempt benefit provided by the employer.

I forgot my registration and course details. How can I find them?

Go to Course Information and enter the email address used for registration into the field. You will receive a code in your email, which will allow you to view your course registrations and invoices.

Do I Need to Know Anything in Advance when I Attend a Course?

Usually not. The course description states if there are any prerequisite skills for the course. Such requirements might exist, for example, in language courses if the course is intended for those who are already more advanced.

Aurala also offers basic and civic skills courses, which specifically focus on the fundamentals of the respective theme. You can find the courses here Basic and Civic Skills.

Do You Have Finnish Language Courses?

Yes. Aurala offers various levels of courses annually, both during the day and in the evenings. We organize both in-person and online courses. You can find the courses here: Finnish Language Courses

What other Support Do You Have for Immigrants?

Currently, support and assistance for employment are offered by the TyösSä parempi project (ESR+, until 2/2026), which is aimed at immigrants in vulnerable positions.

The college’s courses are open to everyone, and they are a great way to meet new people and learn Finnish language and culture.
